Leibniz-Edition, Reihe VIII

In the series VIII of his complete writings and letters (Academy edition) will be published the scientific, technical and medical writings of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. These writings are unequalled sources of modern scientific working and they are nearly unknown up to now. Actually we prepare the first volume of the series VIII. First and foremost it contains Leibniz's early reception of modern sciences in his Paris time from 1672 up to 1676 as well as his own reflections on themes like mechanics, alchemy, optics, astronomy etc. influenced by his Paris studies.
The texts demonstrate that Leibniz was from the very beginning highly interested in scientific problems of his time. He was not only inspired by experiments made by other scientists, but proposed a lot of his own and developed a genuine empirical methodology.
In short: The volume 1 will present a long forgotten but fruitful source of modern scientific thinking.
A hallmark on these manuscripts is given by the plurality of drawings, calculations, diagrams and tables. The state of the art, to present such a richness of manifestations of thinking in progress, is in our opinion the Internet.
