Italian Ministry of CultureThe Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities is articulated in eight General Directorates and four Central Institutes that deal with all the different aspects of cultural heritage; a General Secretariat was recently created for the coordination of the related activities. The informative and statistical activities concerning cultural heritage are carried out by the 6th Service of this Secretariat. In particular this office deals with: Cultural statistics, Coordination of digitisation and information services about all the sectors of the Ministry, Management of national policies and programmes about digitisation of the cultural heritage. A National Commission set up with representatives of all the offices of the MiBAC To has been created in order pursue this goal. The international coordination has been instead activated within the MINERVA project, funded by the European Commission (5FP).Coordination of cataloguing of the cultural heritage and monitoring of its risk: this activity is deeply connected with the institutional duty of the Secretariat also because the two Central Institutes in charge of these actions depend on the Secretariat itself. To facilitate cataloguing a strong agreement has been defined with the Regions (1st February 2001). Supply of services such as: web site of the Ministry, management of data-bases related to cultural sites, Ministry personnel (about 25.000 persons), and management of INTRANET for the whole Ministry All the action lines of the 6th Service are targeted towards two key issues: the development of e-government and the coordination of the informative systems and of the programmes concerning the digitisation of the cultural heritage.
