University of Athens (UOA)

The Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the University of Athens was officially founded in 1989. Since then, it has had considerable growth in educational infrastructure as well as in research and development. The department, and in particular the Laboratory for Advanced Information Systems (LAIS), which is co-led by Professor Ioannidis, has a rich and long experience in several topics of Computer Science, including the areas of Digital Libraries, Databases and Knowledge Bases, Experiment Management Systems, WorkFlow Management Systems, User Interfaces, Data Warehouses, Data Mining, and Distributed Systems. LAIS has participated in a large number of research and development projects funded mainly by the European Union as well as the Greek government. Some of the projects that LAIS has participated during the last five years include the following: DELOS and MISSION (IST), Memoir, ADDSIA, PARACHUTE and PARROT (Esprit IV), HELDINET and ΗΙLDE (funded project by the Greek Government.).
